Trader Joe's

Thanks to this grocer, I get all my cooking done in 30 mins! :D

Almost anything I need to find is here. And most of the items are either washed, peeled, or pre-prepared so I only focus on the cooking and not the prep. Most of the items found are fresh too, so it's free from all those chemicals. The range of food here go as far as the south east asia, so that keeps my options wide and helps me stay creative in this form of art.

The Norton Simon

Monday's painting class became a field trip to Pasadena's Norton Simon Museum (it's only five mins from where I live! :D) It is probably the most informative museum visit I have ever had. And the best part was that Karl got us in for free.

We started outside with Rodin's most famous piece Les Bourgeois de Calais. I never knew how animated this piece of artwork is until now. Moving on into the museum, we covered 14th - 17th century art, 18th - 19th century, and then finally to modern art. It was interested how some of the pieces in the modern art section were created by Karl's friends.

Take home: Every famous artist from Degas to Picasso, from Mondrian to Sargent, all went through lots of pain, either that or they were kicked out from convention to break out from what everyone else was doing. They took the risk. But before all of that happened, ALL of them understood the classical and traditional way of doing things... yes, even Mondrian. If you don't understand what's traditional, what are you going to break away from? Here's an example: We're all familiar with Picasso's style. But if we go way back, we'll see that he came from a traditional art background. Here is an image of his work when he was a student at 15 years old. Enough said.

Up, up and away!

Today, six of my classmates surprised me with this book. How cool! Thanks, guys!! I will be enjoying every bit of inspiration from it! I've peeked on the inside and it's been WOW so far!

I completed my flour sack animation... finally! Phew! Now I can start piecing my assessment stuff together. It's on Wednesday, 13 Jan. We are not having much of a school break as assessment has been pushed forward to day 10 of the 14 days of break we were suppose to have. So much for taking a break.

Yolo!

I started on an art piece a few days back for a competition - I think my last "drawing" contest I took part in was when I was eight! Ohhh, those zoo days were quite something to remember! :O)

This one's run by a few famous illustrator artists in Singapore and a design house. I might be a little too old for this (age group I'm in is "13 and above"). But I really want to get back at illustrating, and just having the freedom to pick a pencil and draw. The contest which YOU can take part too is on http://www.keepthedreamalive.yolo.sg/ The date has been postponed to 31 March, 2009. So get your crayons, paints and whatever and spill some ink!

Art junkie 3

Here's Behind The Scenes at the making of Wall•E...

Incidentally, the making of the movie took 4 years at Pixar which is nothing compared to what I went through. Watching "The Pixar Story" By Leslie Iwerks (grand daughter of Ub Iwerks) on DVD was an incredible 90-min experience! Very moving and touching what the pioneers of this innovative company had to go through. Indeed, there is no such thing as an overnight succcess. Keeps me moving forward in what I do at The Imaginative Factory...

Art junkie 2

Sorry this took so long. A lot happening at the Imaginative Factory lately. New software testing, new books to read, more amendments. But at last, it's done. :O)

Did you guess what it was? It's true that one person's junk is another's treasure! Doesn't this make you wanna re-look what you have at home or at the work station?

Thanksgiving Day is celebrated today in the U.S. of America. I am thankful for this gift of creativity to share with the world! What are you thankful for?

Art junkie

So what do you do if you are tied down working hard on projects and need to take a break but can't go very far?

You find scraps around the house and make something out of it! :O) This exercise is great for those in brainstorm mode. You may think you're wasting time, but it does wonders when you get back to your work bench.

Any guesses what I'm building? Started on this yesterday. It's been a week of ideas generating at the Imaginative Factory. More here...
