Jak food 2

Today's article in the Straits Times Life section on Semarang reminded me that I have another food posting due. This one's called Ayam Presto! It's a chain originating from Bali, so not many locals have heard of this place.

What so special about this kampong-style chicken is that it's pressure-cooked, so even the bones are edible! That's right, you heard me... bones! Definitely worth a try when you're in Indonesia! Remember to have it fried. :o)

Jak food

I was down in Jakarta a couple of weeks back for a shoot. Was collecting clips for a documentary on someone's life that I'm producing. It's been a good 20 years since I last set foot on the capital of Indonesia. It's been too long to be able to compare how it was before but the one thing that struck me was the food!

The best street side food that is shelved neatly in the yummy food department of my brain is something they call Martabak. Looks exactly the same as the Peanut Pancake ("Mee Chiam Kway") that they have in Singapore, but once you let your teeth sink in to one of these... you know it's ooooh so different. ;P I think it comes in three standard versions: egg, cheese or rice chocolate. But hey, if you know you don't have the time, have the vendor arrange all three neatly tiered on one pancake!

You bin' there?

Last Saturday's excursion to Pulau Ubin was spontaneous! It's a great place to capture life as it was in Singapore in the 70's.

Pulau Ubin is a huge chunk of island of about 10 sq km. It's situated to the north east of Singapore. Its name Ubin (Granite in English) is derived from the quarrying of the material during the 1960's. The place is filled with really yummilicious seafood restaurants although I doubt the cost is much lower than on the main land.

More images of life on the island in the darkroom!

Hi ho - Zoetrope

Watch this first...

Pixar comes up with this great exhibit at Hong Kong Disneyland to explain how animation is created. Apologies for the excessive strobe lighting. You can still see hints of the animation occurring.

Click here for a better recording from YouTube.

Pete Doctor (Director of Monsters Inc and Up) and Pixar Animator Warren Trezevant explains the Zoetrope.

Amazing!

Hi ho 1

The next few posts will be a series of videos I took at Hong Kong Disneyland beginning with a clip from the It's Small World ride. So what happens at 12 noon?
